Cocomangas  loves to support the game of basketball at all levels from the young kids to the order blokes. Cocomangas supported Boracay’s under 21 basketball team at the annual fiesta at Barangay Namoa last September  09 by sponsoring the teams uniforms and paying all costs with transportation and food for the players . It was worth the sponsorship as the team played well and the young guns learned more about the game of basketball .The team was made up of Boracay’s best players which made it into the semi finals .

Unfortunately ,during the semi finals , the crowd got a little out of hand as several fans started to  fight . The Boracay Cocomangas team was forced to leave the Barangay for safety of the players and therefore lost the game to default .   It was an unfortunate situation .Hopefully next year the Barangay officials at Namoa will increase  the  security around the court-side.

Even though this tournament ended with default , Cocomangas will continue to support Boracay’s youth in basketball . Thanks to all the players for showing a lot commitment and determination during the games.Let’s do it again …

I love basketball and I love my community here at Barangay Balabag situated on the paradise island of Boracay in the beautiful friendly Philippines. To give back to the community Cocomangas Shooter Bar organized ,sponsored and found other sponsors , so that the youth of Boracay could display their basketball skills during the week long tournament for the students and youth .

The youngest division , 6 and 7 yr old , was my personal favourite and was the crowd’s most popular division  of the event. The game of basketball  at such a young age was full of chaos,turnovers , and hilarious moments . The other age groups involved in the week long event were ages 8,9,and 10, ages  11,12, and 13  ,  ages 14 and 15  , and 16 and above rounding out the 5 different divisions .

At every age level you could see the different talent and basketball skills from certain individuals .I’m hoping that with this early exposure to basketball that those kids with some skills will continue to play and practice the game so that later on in life they can kick some butt in the local leagues over here in the Philippines.

The airbus A320 of TransAsia Airlines from Taiwan sits on the tarmac at Kalibo International Airport .

Kalibo International Airport , the gateway to Boracay direct from Taiwan and other Asian countries like Korea and China.

The other night I had a Taiwanese travel guide approach me saying , “John, I have some good news for Cocomangas  “.  I was like, go on, I like good news. She went on to explain that, ” Taiwan tourism was going to boom on Boracay with four weekly  chartered flights direct  to Kalibo International Airport via China Airlines and TransAsia Airlines”. I was like , that’s not only good news for Cocomangas but great news for Boracay and the beautiful Philippines  to have so much tourism coming to it’s shores.

China Airlines is using the Boeing 737 for the short two hour direct flight, and TransAsia Airlines is flying the Airbus A320 .That means 600 to 800 Taiwanese arriving every week with direct flights from Taipei,Taiwan to Kalibo ,Aklan,which  completely avoids the Manila transfers and customs . The Taiwanese tourists will pass through customs at the arrival hall at Kalibo Airport  . This is  huge for Boracay tourism and will really help the island’s economy grow.

Taiwan is the new Korea. If you’re not aware ,Korean tourism to Boracay has boomed over the last 5 years with arrivals peaking at  over 15,000 Korean visitors a month .Lately,I’ve  noticed the increase in  Taiwanese business to Cocomangas. They have been  partying here at Cocomangas almost every night .The tourist from Taiwan  love drinking the shakers, trying the still standing after 15 shot challenge ,eating yummy pizza, and dancing up a storm .Over the last few months ,  Taiwan has had the second  biggest increase on the scoreboard for the Still Standing After 15 , chalking up  234 more scores . The country with the  biggest increase on the bar’s scoreboard was the Philippines  with over 367 Still Standing’s .

So we at Cocomangas would like to thank all those involved with allowing and promoting  the international flights into Kalibo ,like the Department of Tourism,Department of Immigration, Department of Quarantine,Department of Customs, Philippine National Police , the Governor of Aklan ,   and to the Taiwan tourism for making Boracay their  destination of choice .   Brilliant stuff.

Many customers having fun dancing on the different levels/tables at Cocomangas Shooter Bar ,Boracay.

Having a blast on table number 12 , dancing , drinking ,and grooving to the latest songs at Cocomangas.

Cocomangas Shooter Bar , located on Boracay Island in the Philippines is in the bar business, but our main concern is making people happy . My eldest son(who manages the bar and is doing an excellent job ) refers to Cocomangas as an adult playground.Our playground might not have slides or swings , but the Cocomangas playground has alcohol ,stages , and platforms . I counted over twenty different platform levels where every night tourists and locals can jump up to dance ,dance, dance, … Cocomangas is a bar you can go to with friends any night of the week to drink , party , and generally have a blast. As long as it’s clean fun and it makes the customers happy , we don’t mind if you jump all over the furniture.

I get great satisfaction looking around the bar seeing so many people dancing and having so much fun at their tables. . Every Cocomangas table can be used as a private dance area and many choose to dance at their tables to avoid the crowded dance floor.It’s quite a sight when all twenty different levels/tables at Cocomangas all full with dancing holiday makers.I love seeing all the smiles and laughter that Cocomangas brings to so many people .

I m overjoyed with the fantastic response to our newly renovated web site at Cocomangas.com , which has had over 10 thousand views in less than two months . All the hard work and fustration’s I felt in building the new website is all worth it now , when i see the amazingly big number of people which have shown interest in Cocomangas Shooter Bar by logging onto our official website at Cocomangas.com. So with this blog , i would like to thank everyone who has logged onto Cocomangas.com , and to all which have left a comment in the blog pages; thank you, thank you , 10,000 times.( I know 10,000 plus hits is a big number because our total score for 15 shots stands at about 15,000 names in total but that tally has been ongoing for 19 years . Cocomangas.com did 10,000 in less than 2 months and that is fantastic news.)
I hope our website gives you a good feeling for Cocomangas Shooter Bar ,and Boracay Island, and makes you want to visit this island paradise which is located in the friendly country of the Philippines .The fun part of the website for me is taking the weekly party photo’s. Cocomangas Shooter Bar, est. 1987, is located on the paradise island of Boracay , in the beautiful country of the Philippines , and is famous for its 15 shot challenge, “Still Standing After 15…”.After drinking the 15 shooters with names like the B-52, Screaming Orgasm , Test Tube Baby, and you’re still standing , you receive a free t-shirt , one number for your country , and lastly but most importantly , you get your name engraved on a brass plaque which will hang on the walls of Cocomangas forever. Every night I watch returning customers go to that wall of fame to locate their names to show off to friends or to just feel the pride in having done the “Still standing after 15…” .

Well , we at Cocomangas are making it easier for our clients to locate their names from anywhere in the world . Online at Cocomangas.com .Here’s how .Go to Cocomangas.com ,click on the 15 shots on the red bar at the top.Once at the 15 shots page , scroll down a little until you see the sentence , click here to view the wall of fame , which is in red letters.That will bring you to the search button by name or date . Type in your name as most name plates have been uploaded by name and click search . Your name plate should appear . If it does not appear , try to search by the date, and if it still does not appear than it has not yet been uploaded.

We at Cocomangas are still uploading name plate photos everyday and this project will take at least six months before all name plates have been uploaded.Roughly 15,000 names hang on the walls at Cocomangas Shooter Bar. We started taking name plate photo’s from the year 2009 and are working backwards to 1990 when the first 15 were poured.So far as of today, April 7 2009 , we have completed the uploading for this year 2009 , and are halfway through 2008.

Roy with wife drinking his 15 shots for his record setting 40th time

Roy’s name plate says it all , 40 times and always still standing .

They say you have to earn respect in this world and not ask for it . Well Roy you’ve earned it in my eye’s . In just a nine year span starting in the year 2000,Roy from Norway ,managed to drink the famous Cocomangas 15 shot challenge , “still standing after 15…”, 40 times (that’ s a record i doubt will ever be broken). On Roy’s first visit to Boracay Island in 2000 , he drank the 15 shots at Cocomangas Shooter Bar 9 times in 3 weeks(Another record). But I don’t like to keep records so this is just all unofficial bar talk.But impressive none the less.

Roy has taken the 15 shot challenge 40 times which equals 600 shots and for that i made him a special custom Javas Jersey with a slight change to our slogan on the back of his jersey replacing the number 15 with 600,so it read “Still Standing After 600…” . Today if you party at Cocomangas you can see Roy’s Jersey hanging above the main bar. Congrats to you Roy for helping your homeland, Norway, reach number 14 on the Cocomangas 15 shot scoreboard with a total 222 .You’ve drank almost 20 % of your countries total. Nobody else in the whole world has that claim to fame.Well done old son .

Every night , Cocomangas Shooter Bar,est.1987 on the famous island of Boracay, in the beautiful country of the Philippines , offers a daily happy hour on all local spirits,local beers , and Cocktail Jars.Try the jars as they are massive and potent and are the best deal during happy hour which runs from  7:30pm until 9:30pm every night of the year.

Cocktail Jars cost P140.00($2.95) and during happy hour you get 2 jars for the price of 1. Some jars have 2 shots of booze in every order like the Boracay Island Ice Tea Jar,the Mango Splash Jar ,and the Pineapple Punch Jar .The  rest of the jars on the menu like the Bailey’s Shake , Margarita, and the original Jam Jar have 1.5 shots of alcohol in every order.

The best value drink on the Cocomangas menu during happy hour is the local Philippine made , rum and coke, which sells  2 for 1  for the low price of P60.00($1.27) .

Cocomangas happy hour is worth a visit during your stay in paradise. Every night big groups come in during happy hour and order beer by the case. Along with the beer they’ll order a pizza , and after drinking all those cases of beer they ‘ll hit the dance floor .

Lots of good times to be had during happy hour at Cocomangas Shooter Bar . Happy hour is a good time to come into the bar to meet friends and other travellers from around the world.

Happy customers at Cocomangas Shooter Bar enjoying the Jam Jar cocktails.

Many moons ago when I first opened Cocomangas Shooter Bar ,the bar was  built   so that half of it was without walls so that the beautiful sea-breeze from Boracay’s White Beach could flow through the bar keeping the party animals at a cooler temperature.

But there was one major problem with having no walls around the bar ,  customers could exit from anywhere and with them went the bar’s nice expensive cocktail glasses.It was not easy to buy new cocktail glasses.To buy more glasses I had to travel 3 hours to Kalibo(nearest city) , and another 3 hours back ,as Boracay glass suppliers back in the 80’s were non existent , or if I wanted the really nice cocktail glasses I had to make a special trip to Manila , which was way far away and was a very expensive trip .

So I had an important choice to make, enclose the bar so my  customers would have to exit from one point so I could monitor the glassware coming and going  , but by doing so I would lose the cool sea-breeze , or find an alternative cheaper glassware .I chose the latter and voila ,the now infamous  Jam Jar was born sometime back in the late 80’s .

I was walking the street’s of Manila back in the 80’s and found a supplier of Jam Jars for  a low price of 5 peso($0.20) each .That would save me thousands  of peso’s  in glassware and I could keep the bar with that open air atmosphere .It was a win win .I printed the Cocomangas Jam Jar logo on stickers  which acted  like  labels which were stuck on  the side of the jar to create a unique original drink , and today that Jam Jar has  fueled many a good times here at Cocomangas Shooter Bar.

At first we served only the original Jam Jar mix in those Jars , but today we serve all our cocktails in the now infamous jars.Cocomangas  top 5 jars are :The original Jam Jar,the Bailey’s Shake , the Illusion Jar,the Mango Splash Jar, and the Boracay Island Ice Tea(Long Island ).All massive ,all potent ,all at the reasonable price  of P140.00 peso($2.95) and are available 2 for 1 during our nightly happy hour 7:30pm-9:30pm.

Drop by Cocomangas Shooter Bar any night of the year and try all of the delicious potent cocktail jars.
