Photo from 1989 show’s just the three of us all alone on Boracay’s White Beach.Wow.

When i work the bar at Cocomangas , one question tourist’s always ask me is , “What was Boracay like twenty years ago?”

Twenty years ago Boracay was a true paradise . No cars , no electricity,no telephones , no television’s,no newspapers , no roads, hardly any tourist’s , and just a small local population of four thousand people. Cheap beach bungalow’s right on White beach were the norm.  There was only one motorbike on the island delivering veggies and ice to the different resorts . In the nightclubs ,rum cokes cost  only six peso’s(thirty u.s.  cents) and beers were 8 peso’s (forty u.s. cents) , but  if bought at a store rum and beer were half that price. I was in heaven. My room cost just a dollar a night .So I asked myself should i stay or should i go ??.

It was November of  1986 when i first stepped off the boat and felt the fine white powder sand of Boracay ’s now famous White Beach .It was a life changing moment for me as i fell in love with the Island of Boracay , the wonderful Filipino people , the laid back lifestyle, the warm weather , the beach life ,the ice cold San Miguel beer ,and so i decided to   stay.

That was twenty - two years ago and i ‘m still here loving every minute of it .I ll never forget  the old times on Boracay back in the 80’s when life was not so complicated. A bunch of us used to meet every afternoon at Jonahs fruit-shakes  for backgammon and beers . More beers than backgammon though  as alcohol fueled our good times.  After Jonahs we would move onto Bazura Disco  , or go to the beachcomber or the Sandbar for more late night good times.Funny thing though,  most of those guys and gals around Jonahs back in the 80’s are still here today living the dream life on Boracay, working , living, and raising families in paradise .

I loved the old days of the 80’s on Boracay and it’s nice to think back to all those crazy good times we enjoyed ,  but i also love the Bora-city of today and all the things the island now offers .Internet , air conditioning, one hundred channels of cable t.v.,a mall , great restaurant’s, legendary bars and disco’s,same friendly Filipino people , superb golf course,  and much much more….

No matter if it’s the 80’s or the new millenium Boracay White Beach remains the same , beautiful.I hope you can all visit soon…

Photo shows me playing with the kids at sunset on White Beach , Boracay.

Life is good living on White Beach , Boracay Island , in the beautiful country of the Philippines .I work hard like we all work hard to pay the bills and feed our families , but when it comes time for relaxing , no place on earth beats the fantastic  White Beach of Boracay .After a long hard day at the office, i love heading  down at sunset to relax on the four kilometers of fine white sand .Millions of Coconut trees lining the beach shore is a sight i never get tired of and the turquoise colored water of the ocean is so beautiful my brain automatically goes into relaxation mode. The warmth of the ocean water is amazing at any time of the day or night , and the shallow waters of white beach make it a perfect venue for family swimming .

I love this island life .
